About Kutztown

Kutztown is a Berks County borough set between Allentown and Reading, home to Kutztown University and deep Berks County’s German (Pennsylvania Dutch) roots. US-222 and PA-737 connect the town to the region; PA-737 links directly to I-78 at Krumsville for easy east-west travel. 

History

The town dates to June 16, 1755, when George Kutz purchased 130 acres; he laid out the town in 1779, sold the first lots in 1785, and Kutztown was incorporated as a borough on April 7, 1815—one of the county’s oldest boroughs.
