Tulpehocken is a rural township in Berks County centered on the Tulpehocken Creek and villages such as Rehrersburg and Bernville nearby. The name comes from the Lenape and is often translated as land of the turtles, a reminder of the area’s deep Indigenous and Berks County’s German roots.
History
The Tulpehocken valley became a gateway for Palatine German settlers who moved from Schoharie, New York, in the 1720s. Their farms, churches, mills, and later the Union Canal shaped a landscape now protected in the Tulpehocken Creek Historic District. The region is also linked to diplomat Conrad Weiser, whose homestead stands in nearby Womelsdorf.
Government
Tulpehocken Township operates under a Board of Supervisors with public meetings posted by the township; neighboring Upper Tulpehocken Township uses the same council-manager style of local governance.
Culture
Agricultural fairs, church suppers, and school events knit the community together, while the Tulpehocken Area School District serves five municipalities across the upper valley. Heritage sites, covered lanes, and creekside recreation give the area its small-town pace.
You get local know-how and careful workmanship in one visit. We size equipment for real-world loads, pull permits when required, and commission every install so it performs the way the label promises. Repairs aim for first-visit resolution; maintenance keeps systems efficient through snowy winters and humid summers in the valley.
